For the past 15 years, my work has centered on creating research infrastructure for the humanities, focusing on language. I played a leading role in several national projects (CLARIN-NL, CLARIAH-SEED, CLARIAH-CORE, CLARIAH-PLUS) and was the Netherlands’ national coordinator for CLARIN at the European level from 2009 to 2022.

My research explored natural language processing (NLP) applications to facilitate linguistic research. For example, my team improved the GrETEL treebank search application, which enables linguists to search for syntactic constructions in Dutch based on an example sentence and analyse the results using a graphical user interface. We also extended GrETEL with facilities to search for occurrences of Dutch flexible multiword expressions in large text corpora, again on the basis of an example sentence (MWE-Finder). Additionally, we investigated whether the language profile of children or patients with aphasia can be assessed automatically. This resulted in the web application SASTA, which facilitates automatic language assessment of children or aphasic patients according to established methods for the Dutch language (TARSP, STAP & ASTA).
